Funeral services for John Flying Horse will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday July 22, 2023, at The Prairie Bible Church in McLaughlin. A wake service will be held at 7:00 PM, Friday, July 21, 2023, at The Prairie Bible Church in Mclaughlin. Burial will take place at a later date. John Flying Horse passed away June 23, 2023, in Omaha, Nebraska.
Johnny Valentine Flying Horse was born February 14, 1966, in Ft. Yates, North Dakota to Richard & Ruth (Bonnie) Flying Horse.
John grew up on Standing Rock and lived in various places as he grew up graduating from Wakpala High School.
In June of 1984 he joined the National Guard and attended basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood Missouri, completing his training in August. The following summer he went back to attend the Army. AIT (advanced infantry training), he completed his training. John came home and moved to various places throughout his lifetime.
John had many friends, very good friends in school, one being Leo Ducheneaux, they went to the service together and once completed they moved along still remaining friends all their lives.
John worked many jobs. He was a cook at Prairie Knights, did carpentry in Sioux Falls, concrete workers in Bismarck, construction in Bismarck and Ft. Yates, John Morrell where he was a butcher, he also helped people work on cars. John was a jack of all trades, he liked to keep busy always giving a helping hand to whomever needed help. He held various jobs throughout his life.
John was there helping mom in her recovery when she had her kidney transplant in Bismarck.
John was a happy go lucky kind of guy. He had a great sense of humor, always cracking jokes.
