Obituary

Memorial service for John H. Riley age 68 of Mobridge will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at United Congregational Church in Mobridge. Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Prayer service will be Monday, March 23, 2015 at 7:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Mobridge. John passed away Monday, March 16, 2015 at Mobridge Regional Hospital.

John Henry Riley was born on October 29, 1946 at Watertown, SD to Francis and Alta (Raderschadt) Riley. John grew up in Watertown, and attended Watertown Public Schools graduating from there in 1965. He attended Northern State College and graduated in 1972. He was drafted in December 1966 and served in the Army Medical Corp during the Vietnam era and was stationed in Germany.

John and Madonna Stubbe were married on August 1, 1970. They have 3 daughters, Kara, Alissa and Leah. As a family they traveled to many places in the USA, Scotland, England and Ireland, where John kissed the Blarney stone. John and Madonna went on a Mediterranean Cruise in 2013.

John worked for South Dakota Social Services for 37 years. 5 1/2 years in family Services and Foster Care and 31 1/2 years in Adult Services and Aging Programs.

John was a member of the United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday School Adult teacher for many years. He was a member of the American Legion for 44 years, Jaycees, Bridge City Motorcycle Club, Wheels Unlimited Car Club, DVA Driver, Coin Club, and the Riley Car Club in England.

John loved his family, motorcycling, collecting coins, working on his 1950 Riley, bird watching, traveling and visited every state in the nation, and he had a great sense of humor that was punny. It was a passion of his to remember people by giving them cards.

John is survived by his wife, Madonna Riley, of Mobridge, his daughters Kara Riley of Moorhead, MN, Alissa Riley of Moorhead, MN, and Leah Riley of Eden Prairie, MN, his sisters Veronica (Anthony) Otto of Henderson, NV, Patricia Denekamp of Las Vegas, NV, Katherine (Jeff) McLean of Papillion, NE, Kathleen Fae (Cliff) Porter of Pocahontas, IA, brother-in-law Marlyn (Rita) Stubbe of Brandon, SD and sister-in-law Maxine (Francis) Riley of Vancouver, WA.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Alta (Raderschadt) Riley, sister Carol Winn, and brother Francis "Sonny" Riley.

Memorials have been established to South Dakota Lung Association, United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society, and Bridges.
