Funeral services for John Lind, age 73, Eagle Butte will be Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 10AM MT All Saints Catholic Church, Eagle Butte. There will be a Rosary service at 7:00 PM at the church. Family & friends meet at 4 mile corner at 4:00 PM. Burial will at Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. John passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013 at St. Vincent Healthcare Hospital in Billings, MT.

John Aubrey Lind was born February 20, 1939 to Andrew and Irene (Traversie) Lind at Cheyenne Agency. One of 12 siblings, he grew up on the "Home Place" south of Timber Lake, SD. His early education began at St. Joseph Indian School at Chamberlain, SD and he graduated from high school at Immaculate Conception, Stephan, SD.

After being drafted into the United States Army while participating in the Relocation Program in Ravenna Ohio, he received an honorable discharge in 1965. John then enlisted in the Army National Guard until 1966 and remained in Ohio until returning to Cheyenne River in 1980.

On October 22, 1983, John married Wanda, whom he affectionately called "Ole Girl". John loved to travel, taking Wanda to places she's never been before and they enjoyed 30 wonderful years together. During this time, John was elected to serve as Dewey County Commissioner where he served up until the time of his passing.

John became employed with the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe as the Sanitary Landfill Director and from there he started the CRST Trucking & Construction Co. until 1989. He began working as the Housing Improvement Program Director in 1994 until his retirement in 2012 due to health issues. John loved the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and took great pride in his work; his philosophy was he wanted to make life better for his people.

John is survived by his wife, Wanda, a daughter, Karla Kingman, Aberdeen, SD, step-children; Dee Ann (Wade) Lawrence, Clayton Kennedy, Sioux (Mark) Red Bear all of Eagle Butte, Colin Kennedy, Pocatello ID. Grandchildren; Randy, Samantha & Mariah LeBeau, Jessica (Moreau) Four Bear, Jenilee (Curtis) Simon, Lindee, Morgan & Kaydee Lawrence, Clayton, Blayne & Christine Kennedy, Bradley & Patrick Kennedy, Richi Kennedy, Tyler, Douglas & Thomas LaPlante and 8 great-grandchildren. Siblings; Loretta Whitney, Rapid City, SD, Alberta Hartwick, WA, Edward (Sharon) Lind, Omak, WA, Ivan (Georgiann) Lind, Timber Lake, SD, Bernard Lind, St. George UT, and Jenny (Justin) Lawrence, White Horse, SD and numerous nieces, and nephews. John loved all of his family dearly and enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with each one.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Andrew & Irene Lind, 2 brothers; Lawrence "Swede" Lind, Leonard Lind and 3 sisters; Ethlene Lind, Lavina Christensen and Geraldine Petre.
