Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for John W. Griffith age 72 of Mobridge will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Gettysburg under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Monday, April 7, 2014 from 2-4 PM at Kesling Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 7PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. John passed away, Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, SD.

John was born on March 14, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland to Francis and Mildred (Kaiser) Griffith. He grew up on the farm near Gettysburg and graduated from the Gettysburg High School in 1960. John attended USD and graduated from Northern State University with a degree in Chemistry. He returned to the farm after graduation to help his family.

He married Leora Zimmerman on March 5, 1982 at Pierre, SD.

John worked for the South Dakota Department of Transportation retiring in 2007.

John was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church and was a 3rd degree Knights of Columbus.

Without question John cared for his faith and family deeply. He had a great love for animals and was an outgoing person to everybody, he considered his friend. He had a great love for telling stories and always saw the best in everybody.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years Leora (Zimmerman) Griffith, two daughters, Joyce (Kim) Krumm, Mobridge, Brittany (AJ) Waldner of Sioux Falls, four grandchildren, Damon Griffith (Steph), Sioux Falls, Paige Krumm, Mobridge, Ethan and Emma Waldner, Sioux Falls, 2 sisters, Mary (Mike) Bohnenkamp, Gettysburg, Betty (Brent) Lindbloom, Pierre,

John's in-laws,Gary and (Pam) Zimmerman, Prescott, AZ, Janice (Bob) Cahill, Crossville, TN, Lanova Sheets, Las Cruses, NM, Yvonne (Greg) Smykle, Sioux Falls, SD, Jim (Carol) Zimmerman of Dallas, TX, Ken (Lynette) Zimmerman, Waukasha, WI, Bill (Anne) ZImmerman, Circle Pines, MN, numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Griffith and Mildred (Kaiser) Griffith, brother, Bob Griffith and his Beloved dog, "Lucy".
