John Quincy Boldt was born on April 9, 1917, to Gustav and Hilma Boldt and they lived south of Glad Valley, SD. As a young man, he herded sheep for area ranchers until his folks moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. John stayed back to work in South Dakota and later moved to Nebraska to work with the King family. He and Stella (Bunny) King returned to South Dakota and were married on June 3, 1937 in Timber Lake, SD. Later, John and Bunny moved south of Glad Valley with Esther and Bert Solberg. In the fall of 1937, they traveled to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to live for about 1 1/2 years. During this time Dolores was born. Upon returning to South Dakota, they purchased land in Glad Valley and lived there until John was called to duty with the Armed Forces. Having sold everything, he moved Bunny and Dolores to Isabel and then reported to Sioux Falls, SD for induction only to be sent back home because WWII was over. After returning back to Isabel, John and Bunny lived in the Isabel and Glad Valley areas for the next 12 years working for area ranchers and shearing sheep. During this time, Lois, Johnny Dean, and Jim were born. In 1957, the family moved north of Timber Lake, SD continuing their sheep shearing and ranch work, along with commercial haying. Jay was born during this time. In 1967, John, Stella, and family returned to the Isabel area continuing to farm and ranch while also starting a trucking business. During these years they produced huge gardens and strawberries which were mostly given to neighbors and friends. They continued to live in the Isabel area until Stella's passing in 2004. John resided in their home south of Isabel enjoying making framed pictures from cedar wood for family and friends and loved working with his haying equipment as it was his passion over the past years. He was often seen along the highway putting up hay until his passing. He is preceded in death by his wife, Stella (Bunny), and infant daughter, Lila Mae, his parents, three brothers; Art, Wesley, Arnold (Shorty), son-in-law, Melvin (Butch) Bartlett, and grandsons, Allen Salyer and Jeffrey Boldt.
