Funeral services for Jessen Running Hawk, 24, of McLaughlin will be at 2 PM, Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Elk Horn Congregational Church in Little Eagle. Burial will be at Messiah Church Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A procession will leave the funeral home at 9 AM for visitation starting at 10AM. Jessen passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at S. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck.

Jessen Joseph Running Hawk “Mooney” was born to Adele (Hart) Little Dog and the late John Running Hawk Jr. on August 10, 2001, at the Mobridge Regional Hospital. Jessen grew up in Little Eagle, SD until 2018. He attended school in Little Eagle. He lived in various places until settling in Bismarck. Jessen had many hobbies but especially enjoyed playing basketball. He enjoyed hanging out with cousins and his brothers. Jessen also spent lots of time with his nieces and nephews.

Jessen is survived by his mother Adele (Hart) Little Dog, his sisters Chantelle Lester and Jessie Porras, his brothers Baylee Lester, Jaron Running Hawk, Kendall Thompson, Kameron Thompson, and Miles Flying By, uncles Nathan Little Dog, Bradley Little Dog Sr. (Andrea), Burtan Little Dog, Joseph Flying By, and Paul Bobtail, grandmothers Elizabeth Little Dog, Lena Bear Eagle, Phyllis White, Haven Colombe, Tina Red Bird, Charlottle Village Center, Dawn (Virgil) Standing Crow, Edith Running Hawk, and Jackie Little Dog, his favorite aunty/mom Brenna Little Dog, aunts April/Jarvis Percy, Morning Star Flying By, Karee Foster, his nephews Mathias Carry Moccasin, Tatum Lester, Juriah Runing Hawk, his nieces Caylee and Caylyn Lester. He loved his nieces and nephews very much.

He was preceded in death by his father John Running Hawk JR., his grandmother Carol Ann Running Hawk, his aunt Anna Running Hawk, his uncle Jessie Bobtail Bear, his grandfather Jasper Iron Cloud, his aunt Nadine Little Dog, and his cousin Rayfield Little Dog.
