It is with great sadness that we announce the passing our dear loved one, Jerrelle Burdette Joshua, 52, who entered the spirit world on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at his home in Cannonball. Jerrelle was born March 29, 1972, in Bismarck, North Dakota to Bernetta Joshua and Leonard Black Cloud.
Jerrelle attended school in Cannonball and Solen, North Dakota. He graduated in May of 1991 from Solen High School.
Jerrelle started his own drum group in his early years. A friend of his Joe Mellette came up with the drum group name, "Sioux Echos". Jerrelle kept this drum name all these years. So many of his friends have drummed with him at pow-wows. Some of whom were, his brothers and friends, Duress, Dale, Pozzy, Noah, Delvin, Robin, Ronald, and Little Bob. Jerrelle would also help out other drum groups at pow-wows. So many friends he had on the pow-wow trail.
In June of 2008, Jerrelle's drum group, Sioux Echos were invited down to Utah to be Host Drum. It was just Jerrelle, Matt Little, Dale Ramsey, CL Americanhorse, Casey Wise Spirit and Jeremiah Iron Moccasin. He happily accepted and they traveled all night just stopping for gas and eats. It took about 18 hours to get down there. They were all put up in a 3-story condominium. They were recorded live and CDs were made. Everyone back home was so proud of Jerrelle and this awesome opportunity. The boys had an amazing time down in Utah. This was one of Jerrelle's happiest times he ever had in his life.
On May 3, 2009, Jerrelle and Renita Elk welcomed a healthy, handsome some, Tyrelle Merle. He was very close to him. Today, Tyrelle is a freshman in high school, attending Standing Rock High School and is 15 years old. Jerrelle loved watching Tyrelle dance. He is a traditional dancer and continues to dance today. Jerrells was a proud father to see his son dance at pow-wows in the summertime. Tyrelle would often sit with his dad at the drum and sing with him also. Jerrelle had a lot of singing buddies.
Jerrelle enjoyed hanging around with his buddy, Steven Dogskin and his "Sad Crew". He was always at Steven's having fun visiting, throwing horseshoes and goofing around. These boys will always remember Paco and cherish the happy times they spent with him. Jerrelle also worked with Steven in Solen at the school, helping where he was needed. He most recently was employed at Wozu. His selfless dedication to this community was very inspiring. Hw was a hard worker and helped with the chickens, crafted garden boxes, and lent a helping hand wherever he was needed. His presence out at Wozu will be deeply missed.
Jerrelle will be dearly missed by many, but not forgotten. His son Tyrelle will cherish the memories of all the happy times he spent with him. Especially sitting around the drum with him and singing.
