Mass of Christian Burial for Jeanne (Potvin) Goergen, 91, Selby, formerly of Mitchell will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Selby. Visitation will be Monday from 7:00 PM with the Rosary Service at 8:00 PM. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Mitchell, SD under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge. Mrs. Goergen passed away, Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the Selby Good Samaritan Center.
Jeanne Marie Durand was born to Edward and Gladys (Gamache) Durand on August 16, 1918 in Duluth, Minnesota where she started school. She attended grade school at St. James Catholic parish and afterwards she completed her education at the Girls Cathedral where she graduated in 1936.
She married Wilfred (Bill) Potvin at St. James Parish in Duluth, MN on August 18, 1940. They moved to Milwaukee, WI where Bill was employed and later they were transferred to Mitchell, SD by the Milwaukee Railroad. Bill passed away on May 6, 1959.
Jeanne's hobbies included sewing, knitting, canning fruits and vegetables, working crossword puzzles, and spending time at Lake Elora near Cottonwood, MN, at her parents cabin. Jeanne had a passion for reading books, and was also active in Boy Scouts with her sons, which included the youngest son, David earning the Eagle Scout Award, which meant a great deal to them both. Jeanne had a love for Precious Moments figurines and has acquired an interesting collection.
Jeanne is survived by her sons; Richard and Loretta Potvin of Minneapolis, MN, James Potvin and David Potvin both of Las Vegas, NV, daughters; Barbara (Charles) Schmidt of Gillette, WY, Patricia (Ron) Berens of Glenham, SD, daughter-in-law Marilyn Hornback, of Waverly, OH, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wilfred Potvin, son Robert Potvin, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, daughter-in-law Brenda Potvin.
Any memorials received will be shared by the Selby Good Samaritan Center and Compassion Care Hospice.
