On November 14, 1993, after two days of labor, J'Den Wade came into the world welcomed by his Ina, Darla Lawrence, Dad, Mark Shaving, and his large tiospaye. His family remembers him as a "little old man" and the most alert, peaceful baby. Grandma Mona said we are told that some of us get to come back as an elder spirit, and she has no doubt that J'Den's nagi had been here before. As a little guy, he loved being a cowboy, playing outside with his cousins, being with his Uncle Benny, and spending time with his Unci Grace & Lala Paul. He attended Head Start-5th grade at C-EB and transferred to Dupree because he found out they had elementary basketball. After 7th grade, he returned to C-EB, where he graduated with the class of 2012.

J'Den was respectful, good-natured, and mischievous with his peers and the staff. He was solid in the classroom and always behaved because he loved sports, especially basketball and softball. J'Den had a sports-ending knee injury after high school, but some of his favorite memories were on the courts and the diamonds throughout the region. Sioux Nation was a group of fearless teen boys – they would enter men's tournaments and would battle every experienced team out there. His traveling basketball teams were the Running Rebels and Native Pride. But his favorite team was the C-EB Braves, who had fallen off some before J'Den and crew arrived to re-establish the competitive Braves attitude. J'Den led as a calm, patient player, but he would single-handedly take over a game when needed.

After C-EB, he earned a construction degree from Oglala Lakota College and worked for the Tribe in the Landfill Department, and at the time of his passing, he worked for the Housing Authority. J'Den was not scared of hard work and was willing to help his family with any physical work. Grandpa Rog said that J'Den had a natural gift with horses and that his patience was unmatched, making him the best groundwork horseman his grandpa had ever known.

J'Den decided not to have kids, and when people would ask him why he didn't, he would say, "cuz I'm the best Uncle." And he was not only the best Uncle but the best relative. His cousins were raised as his siblings, and they all say he has the brightest personality with his big loving smile, teasing everyone, and giving family nicknames. His brothers looked up to him, and no matter who was around, he was the same person: a true friend from when they were little guys and into adulthood. His sisters described him as their biggest protector, how safe J'Den made them feel, and how he would do anything he could to make their life easier.

J'Den met Camille Widow in 2015, and their relationship grew into an on-the-go love story. It was amazing to watch J'Den and Camille grow their love, two innocent souls making their footprint on the world and heading off to their next adventure. "J'Den was an incredible partner to Camille. Together, they created so many beautiful memories. They were parents to Gunnar and Rosie and the rest of their fur babies. I admired their relationship because they were always so supportive of each other, always laughing together, always finding new recipes to cook together, and always on the go to a new adventure somewhere. These adventures ranged from concerts and rodeos near and far to fishing and camping at the river together. Most recently, it was a trip to see J'Den's favorite football team, the LA Chargers, play and win against the Vikings. We all know how much he loved his team, so we can only imagine how excited he was. Their love story was fun, exciting, beautiful, and pure.

J'Den was the type of person you enjoyed being around right away. When he was introduced into our family, he just fit in perfectly. J'Den was always so kind, thoughtful, caring, willing to help, and always making us laugh. Anytime we saw J'Den, he was always just so happy, always smiling. He was such a joy to be around. Whenever you see Camille, you know J'Den was just steps behind her. The love between them was unbreakable. I've never seen my sister so happy when she was with J'Den. Camille was his whole world; he was always there for her, keeping her safe and loved. Camille's devotion to J'Den over the years was so strong you could just see how much she loved him. She accepted J'Den wholeheartedly as the person that he was. She loved him through thick and thin. She took care of J'Den in life and in death, she spent every last second with him. As heartbreaking as it is that their love story has taken this turn, their love story has not ended, as he will always be with her in her heart.

J'Den Wade Shaving will be missed by all, especially his wife, Camille Jae." J'Den is the definition of an ikce Lakota man, and because of his humility, this may have been lost on most people, but he was recognized by children, dogs, and horses who were always drawn to him. J'Den loved being Lakota and often stunned people as he was a fluent Lakota speaker. When asked how he became fluent, his family credited Unci Grace & Lala Paul as they spoke Lakota, so J'Den learned as a child and carried it his whole life. While J'Den's passing is unexpected, he did tell his family he wanted traditional Lakota services, which his family has done their best to give him.
