Funeral services for Janice Thies. 75, of Mobridge will be 11:00 AM Monday, April 10, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church, in Mobridge. Interment will be in the Trail City Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church. Janice passed away peacefully Tuesday April 4, 2017 at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck due to complications of pneumonia and a stroke.
Janice Fay Thies was born April 30, 1941 in Mobridge, South Dakota to Arthur and Rose (Schlecht) Naasz. She grew up and attended school in Mobridge.
In 1959 Janice married Gerald Thies and to this union five children were born, Kelly, Linda, Jerry, Dean and Scott.
Janice worked at the "Sereno Café" for a number of years and then began working at the Silver Dollar for Jerry and Brenda Peterson. She also worked for Peggy Jackson at "Peggy's Good Food & Spirits" and for Linda and Bunny Merchant at the "Downtowner" in Mobridge. She then began working at the "Oak Keg" for Tom Keller in Mobridge for a total of 20 years before retiring.
Janice loved sewing and crafting but reading was her great passion. She also loved gardening, crossword puzzles and playing solitaire. She enjoyed watching "Old Westerns", and old episodes of "Perry Mason" and "Matlock" on television. Janice also loved her cat "Buddy".
Janice was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mobridge.
Grateful for sharing her life are her children; Kelly (Susie) Thies of Las Vegas, Nevada; Linda Robertson of Gillette, Wyoming; Jerry Thies of Mobridge, South Dakota; Dean Thies of Aberdeen, South Dakota and Scott Thies of Burley, Idaho, four grandchildren, brother in law, Virgil Lenling of Mobridge, South Dakota, sister-in-law, Donna (Leonard) Schmidt of Roscoe, South Dakota, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Arthur and Rose (Schlecht) Naasz; one brother; Milbert (Red) Naasz, two sisters; Ruby (Naasz) Lenling and Adeline Naasz in infancy.
