Obituary
Funeral service for Janice L. Sandmeier, 75 of Mobridge will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the United Congregational Church in Mobridge. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7PM at Kesling Funeral Home. Janice passed away, Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Janice was born on September 10, 1938 to Frederick and Louise (Maier) Miller in Selby, SD. She attended school and graduated from Selby High School. Following her education she worked several jobs but her passion was working as a nurse's aide and taking care of the newborn babies in the nursery at Mobridge Regional Hospital.
She and Raymond Sandmeier were united in marriage on May 13, 1956. After their marriage Ray went to serve in the US Army and Janice lived with her parents until he was honorably discharged. When he returned, they lived in Selby for a short time and then moved to Mobridge.
Some of the joys in her life were cooking for her family, not only when the kids were in school growing up, but continuing when the family grew and came home for the Holidays. In her earlier years she also enjoyed dancing with Ray, camping in the Black Hills and doing a little bit of traveling. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She also crocheted afghans for her children and grandchildren.
Her life changed when her kidneys failed. After a period of dialysis she was fortunate to receive a kidney transplant in 1978, adding 36 years to her life.
Janice is survived by her husband Ray Sandmeier, of Mobridge, SD, 2 sons; Kevin (Sharon) Sandmeier, Rapid City, SD, Tim (Shellee) Sandmeier, Hermosa, SD, daughter, Brenda (Mike) Steiger, of Mobridge, SD, grandchildren, Jenny (Josh) Schweppe, Rapid City, SD, Chris (Steph) Sandmeier, of Volga, SD, Sarah (Kevin) Lancial, Box Elder, SD, Ryan Sandmeier, Box Elder, SD, Brooke Sandmeier, Box Elder, SD, Melissa (Josh) Shoop, of Rapid City, SD, Megan Steiger, of Rapid City, SD, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Joyce (Bob) Van Orman, Mobridge, SD, Judy (Fred) Badure, of Davenport, IA.
