Obituary
Funeral service for Ivan Walth, age 88, of Mobridge, will be 10:30 AM Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010 at United Congregational Church in Mobridge. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. Visitation will start at 3 PM on Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Ivan passed away Monday, November 29, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge. Memorials may be directed towards the United Congregational Church of Christ or the Mobridge Senior Citizens Center.
Ivan Walth was born on February 20, 1922 in rural Glenham to George and Caroline (Eisenman) Walth. He attended the Lincoln Country School. Ivan was in the CCC working on the irrigation canals around the Vale, SD area. After that he was drafted into the United States Army during WW II serving in the African and European Theaters. Ivan married Irene Perman on September 24, 1950 in Mobridge, this last September they celebrated their 60th anniversary. Ivan was a devoted husband.
Ivan worked as a mechanic at Davidson's Chevrolet Dealership in Mobridge for awhile, then worked as a mechanic for MDU Power plant for 20 years, after that he went on to work at Jensen's Chevrolet Dealership. Ivan was a member of the IBEW International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union, and member of the American Legion #4 of Mobridge. He was also a member of the Grace Congregational Church, were he served as a trustee and usher. When the Grace Congregational Church closed, he became a member of the United Congregational Church.
Christmas was Ivan's favorite holiday, he enjoyed decorating his home, and playing Santa Claus for a number of years for his nieces and nephews. Ivan liked to drive his motorhome going camping and traveling to Washington every year to visit relatives. One of Ivan's past time was watching and feeding the bird's and squirrels.
Ivan is survived by his wife of 60 years, Irene of Mobridge, brothers, Harley (Mary) Walth of Alliance, NE, Marvin (Helen) Walth of Mobridge, numerous nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert.
