Funeral services for Irene B. Ziegler age 87 of Mobridge will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, August 29, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 5 PM, Sunday with a prayer service at 7 PM at the funeral home. Mrs. Ziegler passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Irene Bernice (Deibert) Ziegler was born on January 29, 1929, to Karl and Pauline (Balliet) Deibert in rural Herreid, SD. Irene had five brothers, Alfred, Rueben, Elmer, Milton (who passed away in his youth) and Clarence. Irene also had one sister, Virginia.
Irene attended elementary school at Green Valley country school which was near the farm she grew up at as a child. Irene graduated from Herreid High School, Herreid, SD. She furthered her education by attending Northern State College where she took an eight week teachers course and received her teaching certificate. After receiving her teachers certificate, Irene taught at rural Green Valley Country School and Gale Country School, which was located west of her family's farm. Irene worked at the First National Bank in Mobridge for 10 years before leaving her position to go home to her family to take care of her ill mother, Pauline. Later, Irene was also employed at the ASCS Office in Mound City. Irene married Claude Ziegler on December 31, 1967 at Peace Lutheran Church in Herreid, and made their home in Mobridge. Irene and Claude were married 49 years. Irene was also an avid bowler and she enjoyed this activity with her friends on her league, and the league was sponsored by Mobridge Livestock. Irene was also very active in her church and for several years was the president of the Trinity Lutheran Church Women. Irene also served on the election board for many years, hospital auxiliary board, and volunteered a lot of her time in the community of Mobridge.
Irene was very involved in the Women of the Moose Chapter #929 of Mobridge and was a member of the chapter for 42 years. She joined on March 12, 1974. In 1975-1976, she was appointed the Hospital Chairman and also served at Library Chairman the years of 1976-1977. Irene was elected and served as Junior Regent for the year of 1977-1978. In 1978-1979, she was elected as Senior Regent. During the year, she earned the Academy of Friendship Degree. She received the degree at the Bi-State Conference at Williston, ND, on April 1, 1979. After serving as Senior Regent, she went on to be the Junior Graduate Regent Chair, which she served the year of 1979-1980. During this year, her biggest achievement was to receive the Green Cap, which meant that all requirements were met during her year serving as the Senior Regent. She received her Green Cap at the Bi-State Conference in Aberdeen on September 23, 1979. During this year, her Chapter received the "Chapter Award of Achievement" and with all the requirements being met, Irene was eligible for the College of Regent Degree. This degree was the highest degree one can earn in their local chapter. Irene's highlight of the year was that she earned the honor of serving as the 5th attendant to the Queen of Sponsors at the Bi-State Convention held at Minot, ND, on September 19th, 1980. Irene said, "It was a very special time for me." In December of 1980, Irene earned the first sponsor pin which is the 15 sponsor pin. She was presented the pin on May 15th, 1981, and at the same time, she received an invitation to the sponsors luncheon meeting which was held on June 23, 1981 in New Orleans, LA. In 1981, she received a letter stating that she would serve as Deputy Grad Regent for her State/Province during 1985-1986 Chapter year. Irene's years in belonging to the Women of the Moose were thoroughly enjoyed by her and she treasured the great friendships through the years she belonged to the Women of the Moose.
Irene is survived by her husband, Claude of Mobridge and many nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Pauline Deibert, siblings, Milton, Elmer, Rueben, Virginia Fischer, Clarence and Alfred.
