Funeral services for Iola Fischer age 95 of Herreid, will be at 11 AM, Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the Herreid Baptist Church. Burial will be at a later date at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Iola passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Aberdeen. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
Iola Ida Fischer was born March 12, 1924 to Edward and Elizabeth Kusler in Eureka, SD. Iola grew up in and attended high school in Herreid, SD.
Iola married Edwin J. Fischer on Dec. 12, 1942 at Wessington Springs, SD by Edwin's brother the Rev. Art Fischer. Following their marriage, they made their home on a farm near Herreid and raised their family. In 2005 Edwin and Iola moved to Herreid where she resided until moving to Bethesda Towne Square in Aberdeen, SD in May, 2018.
Iola was an excellent cook and baker. She learned to cook some of Dad's favorite German dishes including authentic German kuchen, strudel, knoephla soup, pigs in a blanket and many others. Family and friends were especially fond of her famous pickles and pickle roll ups which were always a favorite snack requested at many family gatherings. Who ever visited Iola's home never left hungry.
Iola loved to spend time with family and friends and was especially fond of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a wonderful sense of humor and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Iola is survived by 2 sons, Dennis (Carol) Fischer of Mobridge, SD, Gary (Becky) Fischer of Aberdeen, SD, a daughter, Lorie (Aldeen) Goehring of Shakopee, MN. 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Iola was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Ray, 2 sisters, Betty (Joe) Cuellar, Vi (Bill) Lewis.
Casketbearers will be Grandchildren Todd, Casey, Jesse, Chad and Josh Fischer and nephew Bill Fischer.
Honorary casket bearers will be Iola's granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
