Funeral service for Hollas (Holly) E. Wessel, age 83 of Mound City will be Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in Herreid. Burial will be in Mound City Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. Visitation will be Monday starting at 4 PM with a prayer service at 7PM at Kesling Funeral Home. Holly passed away, Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the Selby Good Samaritan Center.

Holly was born Dec. 29, 1929, in Bowdle, SD, to Pete and Ruth (Johnson)
Goldade. She attended grade school and high school in Bowdle, graduating
in 1947. She then worked for Dr. Miller for about a year, and she also
worked at the General Mercantile store in Bowdle. Holly then moved to
South Carolina for about a year with a girlfriend, where she worked at a
drug store, before returning to Bowdle, SD, where she met her husband.

Holly met Omer at a dance in Mound City. They were married on November
27, 1949, in Bowdle, SD. Omer said the 2 dollar marriage license was the
best investment that he ever made. The couple was married for 63 years 2
months and 22 days.

After their marriage, Holly and Omer moved to the Wessel farm where
Holly took care of their two children and Omer. She liked to serve
people and did the cooking for all the gatherings. She was a food
pusher, always insisting those who visited needed to sit and have a bite
of this or that. She wanted to entertain by serving and not sitting
down; she wanted to make sure that everyone was taken care of.

Holly gave a lot more than she received. She had a great love for her
children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren would
love to come over to the house and play out in the yard. Omer stated
that he never had to mow the lawn since the grandchildren would play
ball in the yard, keeping the grass low. Holly loved to dance, and she
was a great pinochle player. She loved to stay home, but would travel to
see her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Holly's last year was spent at the Selby Good Samaritan Center. Omer and
the family are thankful for the excellent care, the nurses, and the love
she received from them all during her stay.

Holly is survived by her husband, Omer Wessel of Mound City; son, Dean
and wife Barb of Mound City; daughter, Deb and husband Dean Roebuck of
Selby; grandchildren, Shawn Wessel and special friend Amanda Twiss of
Herreid, Justin Wessel and wife Michele of Denver, NC, Dr. Misty
Anderson and husband Bob of Valley City, ND, Kari Borns and husband Nick
of Hartford, SD, Darcy Fiedler and husband Tom of Selby, SD, Dusty
