Funeral services for Hilda Bender, 90, of Java will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, March 17, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java. Burial will be at the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Hilda passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at the Walworth County Care Center in Selby.

Hilda Helen Bender was born on September 19, 1931, to Rudolph and Hedwig (Ahrens) Kurle. Hilda lived northwest of Java on a farm until age 12 and then moved to Java with her family. She attended a country school and Java School, graduating in 1949. After high school, Hilda taught at a country school in Campbell County for one year.

On July 21, 1951, Hilda married LeRoy C. Bender at St. Paul Lutheran Parsonage in Java, SD. Hilda and LeRoy moved to Spokane, Washington where LeRoy was in the Air Force at Fairchild Air Force Base. In 1954, Hilda and LeRoy moved back to Java.

Hilda loved genealogy and traveled to many locations to gather information on relatives. Hilda was a homemaker, did gardening and took care of her flowers.

Hilda is survived by her son, Jon (Patsy) Bender of Mobridge, SD, two grandchildren, Mellissa, Lisa, five great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Alexandria, Teagon, Tyleigh, and Kanomai.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, LeRoy.
