Henry worked for the Hank Meyer Ranch in his young adult life. He enjoyed being in the country and working with horses and around the ranches in Little Oak Creek area. He then worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for many years on road construction and building many of the dams in North and South Dakota. His favorite type of machinery was a Caterpillar as seen by the cap he wore his whole life. He enjoyed attending the pow-wows in Little Eagle, White Shield and Red Scaffold as well as the annual gathering held at his parents' home for all the family friends and relatives. His other past times included gardening, working horses, listening to pow-wow music, attending McLaughlin basketball games, visiting country friends and neighbors. Henry was a pillar in the Good Shepard Episcopal Church community; he never missed weekly services, events, and Memorial Day celebrations.
Henry married Lillian Dog Eagle with whom they had a daughter named Velma and son, Donel. They raised their family in Little Oak Creek. At 5 years old, their daughter passed away and her name was then given to his niece, Velma Takes The Gun, the daughter of his sister, Adeline, whom he shared a special and close relationship with. Henry loved his entire family dearly and greatly enjoyed birthdays, holidays and any event where he could share in a home cooked meal.
Henry entered the Mobridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in 2014 where he lived the rest of his days in peace and comfort with his niece, Johanna, the daughter of his sister, Audrey.
