Services for Gus will be held at the Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge, SD on December 24th at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Sunset Memorial Garden Cemetery in Aberdeen, SD.

Gustave Albert Ottenbacher, "Gus", age 87, of Mobridge, South Dakota, passed away at the Bowdle Hospital on December twenty-first after a brief battle with cancer. He was born August 21, 1923 to John and Sybilla (Metzger) Ottenbacher on their family's farm 7 ½ miles west of Eureka, South Dakota. October 28, 1944 Gus married Violet Gruett and they raised their five children in the Aberdeen, SD area.
Gus was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish, a passion he shared with his children and grandchildren. He bagged a 4-point buck on Thanksgiving Day. He loved gardening and providing visiting family with his prized harvest of vegetables.
Gus will always be remembered for his generosity, kindness and his musical ability. Although he couldn't read a musical note, his ability to play the piano was astounding.
Gus is preceded in death by his parents, wife Violet, his brother Herbert, his sisters Martha, Hertha and Hilda. He is survived by his brothers Edward and Ruben and his sister Irene.
He is also survived by his children Bonnie Ottenbacher of Mankato, MN, Connie Smith and her husband Larry of Mankato, MN, Monnie King and her husband Peter, of Ft Lauderdale, FL, John Ottenbacher and his wife Pam, of Selby, SD and Ron Ottenbacher and his wife Cheryl of Fargo, ND. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren Jonovan, Monica, Melanie, Ronovan, Jordon, Morgan, Madison and Jondavid.
