Funeral services for Grace Beaman, age 88, of Selby, will be at 2 PM, Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at St. Jacobi Lutheran Church in Glenham. Burial will be at the Selby Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 3 PM Tuesday with a prayer service at 7 PM at the funeral home. Grace passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Selby Good Samaritan Center.
Grace Ione (Rabenberg) Beaman was born August 29, 1925, to Jake and Johanna (Schlomer) Rabenberg in Mobridge, SD. She was baptized at St. Jacobi Church in Glenham, SD and was confirmed in 1939. Grace attended country school and graduated from Selby High School in 1943. She continued her education at NSTC in Aberdeen. Then, she did the books at Rabenberg's Implement for 2 years.
Grace married Wesley Duane Beaman at the St. Jacobi Lutheran Church in Glenham, SD June 22, 1948. They lived in a trailer house on the Beaman farm south of Selby until 1949, then they moved to the Rabenberg Central Park Grain Farm and lived with the Rabenbergs until 1950. In 1951 the farmhouse burned down in a fire. They rebuilt the family home and lived there until 1978 when they moved to Selby, SD. Wes and Grace were blessed with four children.
Grace was a member of St. Jacobi Lutheran Church, active in Jolly Club when Cheryl was small, then she was in Jolly Homemakers Extension club for 29 years. After moving to town, Grace volunteered at the Good Samaritan Center until her health declined. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends in Hobby Club, gardening, baking, canning, tying quilts, crotcheting, and spending time with her grandchildren.
In 2003 Grace moved into the Good Samaritan Center and lived there until the time of her death.
She is survived by her four children, Cheryl (Alan) Wieczorek, Lee Summit, MO; Dan (Linda) Beaman, Selby, SD; Joann (Doug) Pelkey, Presque Isle, ME; Denise (Donald) Durham, Overland Park, KS; 5 grandchildren, Melissa (Jon) Rasmussen, Denver, CO; Brian (Kari) Beaman, Selby, SD; Carrie (Tyler) Dohogne, Lee Summit, MO ; Alana (Tyler) Kaiser, London, England; Lauren (Peter) Terreri, Philadelphia, PA; and four great-grandchildren, Ian and Logan Rasmussen and Madison and Braden Dohogne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Beaman, and her parents Jake and Johanna Rabenberg.
