Glenn LeRoy Marshall Sr., was born to William Frank "Shorty" and Hazel (Schneider) Marshall on May 4, 1936 at the family farm northeast of Timber Lake.
Glenn grew up with an older sister, Viola, an older brother, Dale and a younger sister, Twyla. He attended Long Butte Country School where he was able to have his father as a teacher. Glenn finished his education in 1954 when he graduated from Timber Lake High School.
In 1956, Glenn enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a radio operator in Panama. He was honorably discharged in 1957. Farming and ranching was something that Glenn learned to love from his Grandpa Frank Schneider. After his discharge from the Army, he returned to take over the family farm and ranch which he continued to do until he retired in 2005. Glenn was a talented carpenter and built many of the buildings that are currently used on the ranch. Planting trees was a great passion of his as well.
On December 18, 1961, Glenn married Frances Perry in Faulkton, SD. To this union, four children were born: Ellen, Donna, Carolyn and J.R. During their marriage Glenn and Frances milked cows, raised sheep, pigs, chicken, and cattle. Glenn took great pride in the hogs he raised and the upkeep and improvements that he made to the ranch. In 1978, he and his brother-in-law, Rod Enright, started a feed and supply business called G & R Feeds. During this time, many great friendships were made. In the spring of 1990, they sold the business.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 54 years, Frances, his children: Ellen (Jim) Hulm, Donna (Steve) Aberle, Carolyn (Rob) Kuhn, and J.R. (Julie) Marshall; 16 grandchildren: Rebecca (Pat) Langfeldt, Amber (Tony) Zornes, Micaela Hulm, Jimi Hulm, Bryan Aberle, Eric Aberle, Andy Aberle, Reba Aberle, Mary Aberle, Tara (Eric) Ulmer, Jackie Kuhn, Brady (Ashley) Kuhn, Todd Kuhn, Bergen Marshall, Chase Marshall, and Averie Marshall; 10 great0grandchildren: Abygail, Tony, Alex, and Alyce Langfeldt, Jacob, Jasmyn, and James Zornes, Zach and Ethan Ulmer and Hailey Kuhn; two sisters: Viola Serreyn and Twyla (Lamoyne) Brandsma and one brother, Dale (Jean) Marshall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and step-mother, Freda Marshall, mother and father-in-law, Leonard and Leona Perry, brother-in-law, Leo Serreyn and granddaughter Kelly Kuhn.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the United Parish Church.
