Funeral services for Gina (Shoestring) Loy, 59, of Cicero, IN, will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Bullhead, SD. Burial will follow at the St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. A procession will be leaving Kesling Funeral Home at 4:00 pm, Tuesday, May 26, 2026, to the Church. A wake and rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. followed by an all-night wake. Gina passed away Sunday May 10, 2026, at Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN.
Gina Shoestring Loy, Wagmiza Luta Win (Scarlet Corn Woman) was born on December 10, 1967, at Fort Yates, North Dakota, the beloved child of Audrey Red Bird and grandmother Margaret Shoestring. From an early age, Gina was known for her strong spirit, compassion, loving and strong sense of responsibility. Gina had a deep love for family and animals. Gina loved hunting with Rob and Christopher. Gina also loved to take advantage of any opportunity to gather with her family.
Gina attended grade school at Bullhead Day School and Junior High School at Aberdeen, South Dakota, she then moved home and attended McIntosh High School where she graduated in 1987. After graduation, Gina enlisted in The United States Marine Corp in 1991 and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California for training, she then was stationed at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina where she met her husband, Rob Loy in 1997, and lived there for five years. Gina was stationed in Okinawa, Japan and did a three-month training. She trained female Marines to be combat ready (MCT). Gina and Rob have a beloved son, Christopher, whom she loved very much. They moved to Cicero, Indiana, where they made their home. She worked for Central Indiana Hardware as a Purchaser for twenty-five years. Gina was an active member of the VFW Post 6246, where she was a Sr. Vice and Jr. Vice. She was also an Adjutant for eight years for Post 6246. Gina was 6th District Chaplain and a Special Aid for The State of Indiana. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Home and Military Order of the Cooties, member of the American Legion Honor Guard for Post 6246, VFW. Gina was a proud Marine and was Honorably Discharged as Sergeant in 2000.
Gina is survived by her husband Rob Loy, her son Christopher, her sister Jessie Red Bird (Carlos), mother-in-law Mary Loy, and nieces Ana, Maria, Olimpia, Jessmyn, Janae, Dana & Kids, Dawn & Kids, Dena, Samantha, Makoche, Suri, Jordan, Tiffany and Isabella, aunt Ruby Shoestring, cousins, Tamara, Edgar, Elston, Joe, Dana, Justin, Marie and Jude, Tallulah, Alvonne (Ray), Alicia, Katie, Liza (Jamie, Sr.), Nicole (Wesley), Jamie Bendickson, nephews, Charlie, Scottie, Jamie Jr., Dane, Terrell, sister-in-law Amy (Chad), brother-in-law Tommy (Tracey) and her beloved German Shepherd, Nanook, nephews Jerome and Nolan.
Also surviving are her friends, Betty Weeks, USMC, Wendy Schroeder, USMC, Amy Donner, USMC, Jackie Burch, USMC, Brandy Green, USMC, Sue Baldwin, Pam Hughes, Vaya Gaya Betches, Jenny Hilton, Sheila Corcoran, Carmelita White Paw, Willard Skinner, Israel Menchaca, Mary Brown Rivas.
