Obituary

Funeral services for Gerhard "Gary" Landis, age 92, of Mobridge will be Monday, June 20, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Peter Naumann officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Gary passed away Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge.

Gerhard Philip Landis was born Feb. 15, 1919 in Trail City to Philipp and Christina (Schlecht) Landis.

He attended school in the Trail City area and when he was old enough he worked for area farmers and ranchers. He did work for the Diamond A Cattle Co. which was one of the biggest Cattle Co. in the United States. When he was of age he went to work for the WPA. After that he went into the Army and was in for the duration of World War II. Most of the time he was stationed in India working on a pipeline.

After he was honorably discharged he returned to Mobridge. He went to work for the City of Mobridge and did so for 35 years.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Mobridge.

On Sept 14, 1947 he married the Love of His Life Violet Pfitzer at the Old Zion Lutheran Church in Mobridge, South Dakota.
To this union 3 children were born Jerry, Glen and Linda.

He is survived by his sons; Jerry (Diana) Landis of Bison, Glen (Rhonda) Landis of Mobridge, daughter; Linda (Lowell) Korbyn of Beulah, ND, 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, brother Herb (Rae) Landis.

He was preceded in death by his wife Violet on June 26, 2003, his parents, 6 brothers, 2 sisters, and 1 grandson.
