Geraldine Amanda Biel, 89, of Selby, SD (previously Mobridge, SD) passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30 ^th , 2020. Geraldine was born on December 22, 1930, to John and Ida (Naasz) Goetz in Java, SD. Geraldine graduated in 1949 from Java High School. In 1951, she was united in marriage to Leonard Schmidtgall and had five children. In 1979 she was united in marriage to Earl Biel.

Geraldine spent her entire life between Java and Mobridge, South Dakota. She taught at country schools in Java and was a substitute teacher for many years at Wakpala School. For many years, she sold Stanley Home Products. Prior to retirement, she worked for Green Thumb overseeing the people who worked for the program. In her spare time, you could find her playing cards, bingo, or at a casino visiting with everyone. A highlight of each year was attending the Brown County Fair where she enjoyed camping for the week and attending the shows.

Geraldine was a member of the United Congregational Church, an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary (63 years) as well as the Women of the Moose.

Geraldine was survived by her children, Georgia (Jim) Bacon, Northville; Jay Schmidtgall, Brooklyn Center, MN; Joy Sheldon-Godette, Stafford, VA; Sherri Ostman, Coon Rapids, MN; grandchildren, Bryan (Julie) Kallenberger, Fort Collins, CO; Nicole (Daniel) Eye, Sioux Falls, SD; KyAnna Sheldon, Stafford VA; and great grandchildren, Hudson Eye and Ellison Eye, Sioux Falls, SD.

Geraldine was proceeded in death by parents, John Goetz (1971) and Ida Goetz (1992), daughter, Elizabeth Schmidtgall (1963) and Earl Biel (2019).
