Obituary

George Ronald Wittmeier of Reno, NV, died unexpectedly in his home in Sept 2020. There will be a graveside service pending at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are pending with Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

George R. Wittmeier was born April 30, 1952 in Mobridge, SD to Maynard and Florence (Brandner) Wittmeier. He grew up in Herreid with his parents and siblings, always surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, and an abundance of close cousins.

George graduated from Herreid High School in 1970. He attended College at SDSU in Brookings until he was drafted into the US Army as a medic. He was honorably discharged with the rank of SP 4th Class.

A year later he returned to SDSU, he graduated with a degree in Printing. He took a job in Lexington KY before landing a job with Craftsman Press in Seattle WA. as a Head Estimator. He moved with Craftsman Press when the company relocated to Reno NV. He retired after working for Craftsman Press from 1981-2007.

George's pivotal moment in life was becoming a father. His son Miles William Wittmeier was born on Sept 7, 1991. Miles was his everything, and George loved spending time with him.

In 2006, George returned to Herreid to help his mother care for his ailing father. He loved his parents wholeheartedly, showing his mom and Dad patience and kindness with a helpful smile.

After his father's death, George returned to Reno because he loved that the area was close to the mountains, desert, Lake Tahoe, and California. His hobbies included golfing, fishing, hunting, and hiking—all were even better when accompanied by his son Miles. George loved visiting and spending time with family and friends. He was the kind of guy everyone loved to be around, making everyone feel welcome and accepted. He was jovial and usually smiling with his own calm demeanor.

Earlier this year he drove to Seattle to be with Miles. This summer while golfing in Palm Springs CA. he enjoyed catching up with two cousins. He also spent a week in the Black Hills touring on motorcycles something he always wanted to do with his brother Brian and a few close cousins and friends.

His untimely death has left us stunned and heartbroken, but we have so many great memories to comfort us.

He is survived by his son Miles Wittmeier Kirkland WA, his mother Florence Wittmeier (Brandner) Herreid SD, sister Connie Moser (Gary) Apple Valley MN, brother Brian (Beverly) Wittmeier Summerset, SD, as well as four nephews and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father, Maynard Wittmeier (2006), brother, Duane Wittmeier (1954), grandparents, George and Christine Wittmeier (Bollinger) and Joseph and Mary Brandner (Heid)

Please understand our concern, Due to Covid 19, and his mother's age we have decided to delay graveside services until a future date.
