A remarkable lady was called home to rest October 24, 2014 at the age of 88. Genevieve Irene (Biel) Allmendinger was born in the Selby Hospital on December 29, 1925 to Fred G. and Emma (Knopp) Biel. She attended the Kundert County School north of Java for two years then moved to Mound City where she completed her sophomore year in high school. The next two years she stayed in the dormitory in Java and graduated from high school in 1943. In December of that year, she enrolled in the Cadet Nursing Program at St. Lukes School of Nursing in Aberdeen and graduated in 1946. She worked as a registered nurse in the office of Ophthalmologist Dr. E. A. Rudolph in Aberdeen until March of 1950.

Genny and Leo Allendinger were married October 30, 1949 in the Selby Congregational Church. They would have celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary this week. They lived in Aberdeen until March of 1950 when they moved to the Allmendinger family farm near Selby. She continued to do some nursing as a Private Duty nurse and assistant to the Walworth County Public Health nurse.

She enjoyed being an active member of the Extension Homemakers Club, serving as an officer in the local club, and at the county and district levels. She joined the Selby Jaycettes and was an active member in club and the community. In 1959, she was appointed to the position of State Parliamentarian and then elected as the State Jaycette President in 1960, where she traveled all over the state while building a house and raising three children, one of which was an infant. She was chosen as Woman of the Year in 1961 and was presented a sliver tray by her local chapter. She kept involved in the 4-H Program and served as a leader for the Sunshine Workers for 17 years. She not only taught her daughters how to sew, but several others. She continued to promote 4-H and assisted with the annual Walworth County Achievement Days activities. In 1992, she was presented the Meritorious Service Award by the Selby 4-H Leader's Association. She was a very active member of the United Church of Christ. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, sang in the church choir, and played in the Hand Bell choir. She served in every roll as a member of the Women's Fellowship. Her faith was very important to her. She valued spending time with her family and friends.

She enjoyed music, crafts, sewing, reading, playing cards and weekend camping with the "Week End Loafers". Gen and Leo enjoyed the 26 years they spent at their winter home in Mesa, AZ.

Survivors include: her husband, Leo, one son, Steve of Selby, three daughters Cyndi Baumann of Omaha, NE, Mary (Glenn) Parry of Beloit, WI, Paula (Bob) Scicluna, Raleigh, NC, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Warren son in law Floyd Baumann Jr. and daughter in law Jill Allmendinger.

Genny lived her faith daily, dedicating her life to caring for others. We, the living, are challenged by her example to "bury our sorrow in doing good deeds." Miss me, but let me go.
