Gail Vrooman, 96 of Miller, SD died Saturday, January 12, 2019. He was formerly of Eagle Butte, SD where he farmed for over 70 years. Gail was born on September 5, 1922 to Roy and Etta (Lindsay) Vrooman. He graduated from Eagle Butte High School. Gail attended South Dakota State College of Agriculture majoring in poultry.   Throughout his life, Gail served in the United States Army during World War II with the rank of Sargent under General Patton. He farmed in Ziebach and Dewey counties, and retired in Miller, SD where he resided with his nephew Robin Vrooman, his wife Gayle and their family. The most important thing to Gail was to spend time with his family. He kept current on the latest news and politics and always had the time to visit with anybody. He was a loyal Minnesota Twins fan and over the years had attended several games. Gail had many good friends and loved them and his family deeply. To many of his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, he was more than a brother or uncle. He was more of a father and grandfather figure to them. Many people have made the comment that Gail was kind of on the quiet side, but he could contribute lots of historical information to any conversation. No matter what tough situation he was faced with, he wanted to be with his family and friends and especially enjoyed when people came to visit him.

Gail is survived by his brother, Ralph (Rosella) Vrooman, and his sisters, June Foley and Jessie Clauson, his sister-in-laws, Karen Vrooman and Linda Vrooman. He is also survived by 28 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. Gail was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Etta Vrooman, his sisters, Margaret (Jim) Filholm and Lillian (Happy) Herren, his brothers, Milford Vrooman, Donald Vrooman, Gordon Vrooman, Earl Vrooman, and Leroy Vrooman, his niece, Lucy Clauson, and nephews, Jack Anderson, Jim Herren, Ralphie Vrooman, Tim Clauson, John Clauson, and great nephews, Arleigh McLellan and great great nephew, Clinton Farlee.

Family and friends will gather from 9:00 AM to 11:00 at the United Church of Christ proceeding the memorial service at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 17, 2019. The memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 17th, 2019 at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Butte, SD. Burial will be at the Eagle Butte Cemetery.
