Funeral services for Freada Mertz age 94 of Mobridge, will be 10:30 AM Saturday, December 19, 2015 at First Baptist Church,in Mobridge with Pastor Gary Street officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Freada passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge.
Freada was born December 20, 1920 on the family homestead south of McIntosh to Philip and Elizabeth (Quanzer) Moser.
After she finished school she stayed home to help take care of her younger siblings. Later she was hired by a neighbor couple to help with their family. This is where she met her future husband.
Freada married Herbert Mertz on July 13, 1941 and lived on a farm until 1958 when they moved to Mobridge. During the early years in Mobridge, Freada cleaned house for several families. In 1964 Freada and Herbert established what is now East Side Motel and Cabins.
After Herb's death in 1974, Freada took care of the motel until selling it in the late 70's.
Freada was very active member of the First Baptist Church singing in the church choir and the Ladies aide, Senior Citizens Center.
Freada is survived by her son Charles (Myrna) Mertz of Hettinger, ND, sister, Betty Pereno, of CA., brothers, Clarence Moser of Mobridge, Marvin (Essy) Moser of Gillette, WY.
Freada was preceded in death by her husband Herbert, baby sister Regina, brother and sister-in-law, Ed (Ida) Moser, sisters Tillie (Gottlieb) Dietterle, Adaline (Argo) Brockel, Arlene Moser, James Pareno.
Memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church.
