Mass of Christian Burial for Francis Hummel, 77, of Trail City will be at 10:00 AM, MT, Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Trail City. Burial will be at the Trail City Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A prayer service will be held at the church Friday at 7:00 PM, MT with visitation starting at 5 PM, MT. Francis passed away, Wednesday, April 16, 2018 at his home.
Francis Hummel was born on May 5, 1940 to John and Katherin (Gefroh) Hummel in Hague, ND. In 1941 he moved with his family to Trail City, SD. He attended country school until the eighth grade then went on to help on the farm and other area farmers. One thing that Francis did not like to do was milk cows.
Francis raised cattle and farmed on the family farm. He was very giving to the family and would drop things to help out a neighbor in need. Francis was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Trail City
Francis was a farmer at heart. He also was a tractor man and could be found on his tractor at all times. He was a kind, gentle hearted man who was willing to help others. He lived his life to the fullest in his own way. He loved his family and nieces and nephews when they came to visit. One of his biggest hobbies was talking with his brothers and sisters on the phone for many hours.
Francis is survived by brothers and sisters, Helen (James) Daschel of Sioux Falls, John (Phyllis) Hummel of Lester Prairie, MN, Jennie (Gary) Johnson of Sioux City, IA, Irene (Alan) Kuckelburg of Aberdeen, Angie (Don) Thiemann of Winsted, MN, Al (Rebecca) Hummel of Springfield, MO, Marlene (Robert) Kritzeck of Winsted, MN sister-in-law, Jean Hummel of New Prague, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ben and Mark, Walter, sister, Elaine Bolan and niece, Casey Kritzeck.
