Obituary

Funeral services for Forrest Johnson, 59, of Selby, SD will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the St. Jacobi Lutheran Church in Glenham. Burial will be at the Glenham Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be on Wednesday starting at 2:00 PM at Kesling Funeral Home with a Prayer Services at 7:00 PM. Forrest passed away Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010 Med Center One in Bismarck.

Forrest Allard Johnson was born on January 30, 1951 on the family farm near Selby to William Brooks, Sr. and Norma Ione (Kuehl) Johnson. Forrest attended Pershing country school until the 8th grade, for high school he attended and graduated from Northwest Lutheran Academy in 1969. He also attended one year at Wisconsin Lutheran Synod.

With his father having a heart attack Forrest returned to the family business of house moving. He then drove semi for the Eureka Implement, worked for Mitzel's Mobile Homes and also for Aero-Dyna-Kleen Services. Forrest attended Worthmore and then realized that he wanted to help people the way he was helped. He went to school at USD graduating with honors with a Bachelors of Science Degree for Chemical Dependency Counseling on May 12, 1990. Forrest worked for Three Rivers Counseling from 1990 until 2004 serving Mobridge, Eagle Butte, Lemmon and Isabel, South Dakota until health issues forced his early retirement. Evan after retiring he used his connections to help others that called on him to get the help they needed. One of Forrest's highlights after retiring was attending his 40th Class Reunion of the Northwest Lutheran Academy even though he had health issues. His brother Arwood, his dog Rex and Forrest lived together helping and taking care of each other.

He was baptized on April 1, 1951, confirmed on May 9, 1965 and a lifetime member of St. Jacobi Lutheran Church where he also taught Sunday School.

Forrest enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting antiques and taking care of his horses. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews and remembered each one of their birthdays. He was a practical joker with a great sense of humor and quick wit. The most important part of his life was God and family.

Forrest is survived by his brothers; Brooks (Carol) Johnson, Jr. of Mobridge and Arwood Johnson of Selby, SD and sisters; Roberta Perman of Aberdeen, and Ione Enderson of Glenham, SD. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; Mark (Jane) Perman; Mitchell and Michael, Milissa (Lyn) Fliehs; Shelden, Jorden and Jayden, Kristi (Lance) Burns; Gage, Joshua (Nicole) Perman, Karla (John) Bieber; Zachary, Margaret, Victoria and Katrina, Bill (Crystal) Johnson; Patrick, Brooks, Zoey and Jorn, Karen (Dave) Vogel; Britten and BrookeLynn, Robert (Stacy) Johnson, Memorie (Randy)Carlson; Brandon and Tyler, Monique (Josh) Eldridge; McKenzie, Mariah, Lexi and Brooke, Monica (Kirby) Keller; Alex, Jacey and Taylor, Ryan (Darci) Enderson; Paige, Taige, Josten and Coby. Aunts; Mae Johnson of Lead, SD, Enid Larson of Aberdeen, SD, Ruth Stanley of Waco, TX, Jean Johnson of New Jersey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, great niece Shelby Gross in 1997, 1 brother-in-law Marvin "Buzz" Perman in 2006.

Casketbearers are Mark Perman, Josh Perman, Brandon Carlson, Ryan Enderson, Bill Johnson, and Robert Johnson.

Honorary Bearers are all of Forrest's coworkers and friends he had while working at Three Rivers Counseling.
