IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Floyd
Fuhrer
May 17, 1924 – March 16, 2014
Funeral services for Floyd Fuhrer, age 89, of Mobridge and formerly of Isabel will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the UCC Church in Mobridge. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be from 6-7 PM at the funeral home Wednesday. Floyd passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Floyd Fuhrer was born May 17, 1924 in Isabel, SD to Albert and Emma (Korb) Fuhrer. Floyd grew up on the family farm north of Isabel.
Floyd married Myra (Sally) Bell on June 30, 1948. Sally was the love of his long life. Floyd and Sally then moved to Ipswich, SD where Floyd worked for the Rural Electric Association and this job took them to various places. Their first son, Robert (Bob) was born in Ipswich, SD.
Leaving Ipswich and moving back to Isabel, SD their family grew to include one more son Randy who was born in Isabel.
Floyd and Sally lived most of their life in Isabel. Floyd worked for the railroad for a few years, then worked for Herb Stadel and Warren Young as a carpenter.
In 1963 Floyd became the custodian for the Isabel Public School System where he worked until his retirement in April, 1986 at which time he moved from Isabel to Mobridge, SD. He enjoyed riding in the bulk truck and his outings on wrecker service calls.
Even after moving to Mobridge, Floyd enjoyed his weekly visits to Isabel for a haircut, stories and continued friendships.
Floyd kept his avid love of carpentry making cabinets out of old TV's, wood pellets and redoing any wood item he could get his hands on. His family, including his grandchildren, have many items he made and/or refinished.
Floyd was a long time member of the United Church of Christ. Floyd enjoyed his many friends and family that visited him at the assisted living facility where he resided. The staff and fellow residents became his family in later life and he would not want to be gone too long from there to visit family as he thought they "missed" him while he was gone.
He is survived by his children Robert (Pam) Fuhrer of Pierre, SD and Randy (Ella) Fuhrer of Murdo, SD. He had three grandchildren – Marcie (Chad) Holsteen, Wichita, KS, Jason (JoAan) Fuhrer, Niceville, Fl and Tommy Fuhrer, Aberdeen, SD. From these grandchildren he had three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Mason and Ty Holsteen. He also had three step-grandchildren – Liza Coffey, Lincoln, NE, Angie Dennison, Sioux Falls, SD and Shelly Jackson, Lincoln, NE. Of these three step-grandchildren he had three great-grandchildren, Branyt Coffey, Savannah Phillips, Tyson Dennison and Marissa Jackson. He has had one step great-great-grandchild – Cynia Jackson.
Floyd is also survived by his two brothers – Raymond (Lu) Fuhrer of Mobridge and Frank Fuhrer of Isabel and two sisters – Martha (Dick) Waddell, Mobridge and Dora (Larry) Christenson, Gillette, WY and numerous nieces and nephews.
Floyd was preceeded in death by his loving wife Sally, his parents, three brothers and one sister.
