Funeral services for Ethel Long Elk age 89 of Grand Forks will be Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 11 AM CT, at the Pine Little Eagle Church Rural Bullhead. Burial will be at the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Wake service will begin at 5 PM, Tuesday at the Bullhead Community Center. Ethel passed away November 10, 2017 at Woodside Village in Grand Forks, ND.
Ethel was born on December 22, 1927 in Bullhead, SD, to William and Bertha (Little Eagle) Flying Horse. She grew up around the Bullhead area, this was her home.
When she was a young girl she attended Pierre Indian School in or about 1938.
She married Chauncey Long Elk in 1947, and they celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 1993.
Later in life she went on to United Tribes, about 1975, Fort Yates Alcohol Counselor, 1983. Then to Vo-Tech College in Watertown, SD, 1985.
Ethel loved to make yarn-blankets, cook, bake, and many other numerous things, also raising her grandkids.
Then in life time she lived in McIntosh, Lemmon, McLaughlin, Bismarck, Mandan, and at the time of her death Grand Forks, ND.
Ethel is survived by her children Julian Long Elk, Celeste Long Elk, and Marsha Long Elk, one brother Reno Mutchler, numerous grand-children.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Chauncey Long Elk, her parents, William and Bertha (Little Eagle) Flying Horse, brothers and sisters, William Flying Horse, Ella-Mae Kills Pretty Enemy, George Flying Horse, Elmer Flying Horse, Raymond Flying Horse, Rachel Otter Robe, Elaine Hayes, Frank Flying Horse.
