Funeral services for Esther Miles, 102, of Selby will be at 2 PM, Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 1 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Esther passed away Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Walworth County Care Center.
Esther (Berreth) Miles was born November 11, 1916 at Zeeland, North Dakota to Peter and Pauline (Sauter) Berreth. She grew up on a rural farm near Selby and attended school in Mobridge, South Dakota. Esther lived and worked most of her adult life in Mobridge. She also lived in California before moving to Aberdeen and living at Parkside for many years. Esther then moved to Selby, South Dakota and became a resident at Walworth County Care Center. Esther was 102 years of age at her passing.
Esther had a strong work ethic, having numerous jobs, one being working for the superintendent of Mobridge School system, never missing a day of work.
Esther enjoyed playing golf, fishing and family visits. She always kept a lovely home. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Selby and also served as worthy matron of Eastern Star.
Esther is survived by a nephew, James Berreth and two nieces, Joyce Lacher and Judith (Rau) Kary and many great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Al Miles, sisters, Frieda Rau Biel and Ida Maier, one brother, Peter Berreth and nephew, Howard Rau.
