Funeral services for Estelle "Marie" Gabe, age 80, of Eagle Butte will be at 10 AM MT, Saturday, May 12, 2012 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. Burial will be at the St. Andrews Episcopal Cemetery in Cherry Creek under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A prayer service will be at 6 PM Friday at the church. Family and friends will procession from the 4 mile junction at 4 PM. Marie passed away Friday, May 4, 2012 at Med Center One in Bismarck, ND.

Estelle Marie Gabe was born on July 2, 1931 in Sturgis to Ben and Margaret (Benoist) Mewhirter. She attended boarding school at Stephan, SD and St. Elizabeth School in Wakpala. She married Rufus Charles Gabe Sr. and to this union five children were born: Rufus Charles Gabe Jr., Cheri, Sanford, Richard, and Kevin. They made their home in Cherry Creek and Wakpala. Following her marriage she attended school in Oakland, CA for several years before returning to South Dakota where she lived in different places including Cherry Creek, Faith, Mobridge, Rapid City and Eagle Butte. She then moved to North Platte, NE for eleven years where she did house keeping work. In 1998 she moved to Eagle Butte where she has since resided. Throughout her life Marie did a lot of seamstress and house keeping work.

Marie enjoyed crocheting, making doilies and blankets, reading, sewing, doing puzzles, watching her favorite show "CSI", and waiting for her sweepstakes to come in the mail.

She is survived by her children, Cheri Davidson of Eagle Butte, Sanford Gabe of Ft. Thompson, and Kevin Mewhirter of Eagle Butte; son-in-law, Jim Davidson of Eagle Butte; brother, Sandy B. Mewhirter of Baker City, OR; grandchildren, Janell Marie, LeeAnn (Arte) Jewett, Tina Frances, Ritchie & Melody Gabe, Shawna Fogg & family, Evalee Crow & family, Lea'Shay (Gib) Moran & family, Wanda Crow & Family and numerous great grandchildren.

Casketbearers are Sanford Gabe, Jake Berndt, Dalton Anderson, Larry In The Woods, Sebastian Eagle, and Terris Thompson.
