Obituary
Funeral services for Erwin Ford, age 93, of Herreid will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Peace Lutheran Church in Herreid. Burial will be in the Mound City Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A prayer service will be at 7:30 PM Friday at the church. Erwin passed away Monday, April 9, 2012 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.
Erwin Henry Ford was the oldest son born to Eugene and Emma (Rische) Ford on May 6, 1918. He grew up on the farm south of Herreid known as the Ford place, along with his brothers and sisters, Milton, Orville, Lester, Albertus, Elvera and Lavina Ford.
Erwin married Verna Isaak on October 7, 1939. Verna and Erwin were able to spend 71 years together before Verna passed away on December 8, 2010.
Erwin worked at the Herreid Cement Plant, Rueben Scherle and Mitzel Trucking. In 1969 Erwin and Verna moved to Mobridge, SD where Erwin worked for the Mobridge School System. They lived in Mobridge 30 years until their retirement and then moved back to Herreid and lived in the apartments on Main Street. After Verna passed away, Erwin moved into the Good Samaritan Home where he resided until his illness. Erwin is remembered by his family as a collector of coins, pens, toy cars and toy miniature horses. The family remembers how he was always giving things away, and was a kind, honest man.
Erwin and Verna Ford were members of the Lutheran Church their whole life.
Erwin leaves his two daughters, Lois Bales-Johnson of Hartford, SD and Joyce & John Ochsner of Herreid.
Lois's family includes; her children and grandchildren, Brad (Sally) Bales, and children, Brittney (Eric) Rick, Colin, Chris, and Aaron Bales of Bismarck, ND and great grandchild, Ella Mae Rick, Rev. John (Sheri) Bales, and children, Whitney and Brennen Bales of Epcondedo, CA, Lynette (Rick) Coker, and children, Josiah and Rachel Aberson of Hartford, SD, and Jenny (Brian) and daughter, Morgan Hammer of Rogers, MN.
Joyce's family includes, children and grandchildren, Roger (Heather) and children, Justin, and Erica Ochsner of New London, MN, Rhonda (Chad), and daughter, Hanna Masters of Aberdeen, SD, and Russ Ochsner of Aberdeen, SD.
We will miss our dad and grandpa.
