Funeral services for Ernestine Spotted Horse, 71, of McLaughlin will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 11, 2017 at McLaughlin Blue Gym. Interment will be in the St. John's Episcopal Cemetery in Bullhead under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. All night wake will begin at 7:00 PM Friday, February 10, 2017 at the McLaughlin Blue Gym. Ernestine passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at her home.


Ernestine (Antelope) Spotted Horse was born on July 29, 1945 in Little Eagle to Levi and Lenora (Chasing Hawk) Antelope.
She attended Wakpala School and was a cheerleader for the Wakpala Sioux, Ernestine received her GED in 1972.

Ernestine married Art Taken Alive Sr. on July 17, 1964 at Pierre, SD from this union 4 children were born.
She met Roland Thunder Shield Sr. and from this union 3 children were born.
She married Blaine Spotted Horse in McIntosh, SD and from this union 2 children were born.

Ernestine enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, she would go and support her children and grandchildren at their events. She enjoyed cooking for her family and making fry bread. Ernestine enjoyed going to Bingo and playing cards, visiting with friends, also enjoyed watching Golden Girls, Wheel of Fortune, Price is Right.

She raised her grandson Isaiah Farrell and nephew Nephi Antelope since they were small. She was a teacher's aide at Little Eagle Head start, also was a school board member for the Little Eagle Day School, Little Eagle Nutritional Site,

She was survived by her children, Sybil Taken Alive, McLaughlin, SD, Art Taken Alive Jr., Oxford, WI, Dawn Rousseau (Victor), Aberdeen, SD Bridget (Clifford Jr.) Taken Alive, Little Eagle, SD, Lenore Good Elk (Joe), McLaughlin, SD, Bernadette Spotted Horse, McLaughlin, SD, Robyn (LeRoy) Farrell, McLaughlin, SD, Roxanne Spotted Horse, Waseca, MN, Roland Antelope-Thunder Shield, Jr. McLaughlin, SD adopted son, Greg and Tammy Witherspoon, McLaughlin, SD. 44 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, godchild Starla Howard, adopted brothers and sisters, Dean and Patty Dedman, Teresita Wilson, Darrell and Arlene Loafer, Elmira Gary, Frank Red Legs, Terrence Red Legs, Henry and Tiffany Red Legs.

She was preceded in death by her father Levi Antelope Sr., mother Lenore Chasing Hawk – Antelope, son, Jason Conrad Taken Alive, brother Levi Antelope Jr., grandsons, Drake Brown Otter, Artell Taken Alive, Spirit Taken Alive, granddaughter, Autumn Taken Alive,
