Funeral services for Emanuel "Ted" Raugutt, age 88, of Mobridge will be at 11 AM Friday, April 2, 2010 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Pastor Peter Naumann will be officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 PM Thursday at Kesling Funeral Home. Ted passed away Monday, March 29, 2010 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
Emanuel Theodore Raugutt was born on August 30, 1921 to Michael and Paulina (Frigen) Raugutt in Monango, ND. Ted's parents then moved near Red Top Hill and later to a farmstead near Old Evarts south of Mobridge. During his youth Ted spent many hours hunting and fishing, perfecting his skills. In 1937 he joined the CCC and was sent to Sand Lake near Columbia, SD. He was discharged in 1938 and returned back to Mobridge. He worked road construction for a short time on state highway 12 and 212. In 1942 he started working for the Milwaukee Railroad on the bridges and buildings crew. He later worked on the section crew before transferring to the water treatment plant. On July 7, 1946 Ted married Lorine Kappes in Mobridge. Following their marriage they made their home in Mobridge and where they have since resided. In 1953 at the end of the steam locomotive era Ted's job was eliminated. Ted started working for the SD Highway Dept and worked there 33 years before his retirement in 1986.
Ted had a passion for hunting and fishing. He taught his daughters how to fish and enjoyed taking the grandchildren out with him. His family spent many hours fishing out on Claymore Creek which was his favorite spot. He also enjoyed tying spinners for tackle boxes and gardening every year. He was a life long member of the Zion Lutheran Church and a devoted Christian and family man.
Ted is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lorine of Mobridge, two daughters, Cheryl Raugutt of Mobridge and Lois (Jerry) Balliet of Dickinson, ND, grandson, Jason (Kim) Balliet of Dickinson, ND, great grandchildren, Paige and Jake, grandson, Wade (Michelle) Balliet of Thorton, CO, great grandchildren, Will and Brynn, brother, Raymond (Cora) Raugutt of Casper, WY, sister, Erna Mae Ackerman of Dickinson, ND.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, David, in infancy, sister, Ruth Heier and Hanna Pahl, brothers Rueben, Melvin and Mike.
Casketbearers will be Jason Balliet, Wade Balliet, Lee Heier, Dale Raugutt, Marvin Pahl, and Larry Pahl.
Usher is Helmuth Eisenbeisz.
Barbara Naumann will play the organ.
