Funeral service for Elmer Allerdings age 97 of Selby will be 10:00 AM Friday, June 12, 2020 at the Akaska Community Center. Interment will be in the Selby Memorial Garden under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Thursday, June 11, 2020 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Kesling Funeral Home. Elmer passed away Sunday, June 7, 2020 at the Bowdle Health Care in Bowdle.

Elmer Edwin Allerdings was born March 10, 1923 in Mobridge, SD to Jacob and Louisa (Follmer) Allerdings.

On March 13, 1950, Elmer married Barbara Stradinger in Mobridge, SD. Elmer joined the Marine Corp in 1941-1942. Elmer was given a medical release and he returned to the family farm to farm with his dad, Jacob.

In 1959, Elmer purchased the family farm from his parents, where he farmed until 2012. Even though Elmer was retired he still baled every year for his goats and donkeys. Elmer lived on the farm with his wife and daughter Cynthia Rische until March 2020.

Elmer taught his grandchildren everything from fence fixing, nail pulling, cleaning chickens and hauling bales. During his retirement, Elmer made homemade contraptions/art items that he shared with family
members and friends. Elmer grew close to his nephew Scott Stradinger, who was like a son to him. Elmer and Scott spent time together reminiscing about the old days, how the world has changed and heloved trips to Selby Drive Inn for an ice crème cone.

Elmer is survived by his wife; Barbara Allerdings, two sons; Danny and Elaine Allerdings of Hardin, MT, Tim and Christie Allerdings of Cottonwood, AZ, three daughters; Linda and Dan Beaman of Selby, SD, Debbie and Doug Wager of Mobridge, SD, and Cynthia Rische of Selby, SD and 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; Jacob and Louisa Allerdings, brothers; Alvin, Ray, Eugene and sisters; Emma and Viola.
