Mass of Christian Burial for Effie (Alkire) Antell, 80, of Ft. Yates will be at 10 AM, CT, Monday, June 11, 2018 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ft. Yates. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A wake service will be held at 7 PM Sunday at the church. Effie passed away Monday, June 04, 2018 at her home.

Effie was born to Louise (Hona) Alkire and James Alkire in Fort Yates. She was raised a country girl on the Alkire Ranch south of Fort Yates.

Effie attended school in Fort Yates and graduated in 1957. She then continued her education at the Indian School of Nursing in Albuquerque NM, graduating as a L.P.N.

Effie married Maurice Antell in Cass Lake, MN. She worked as an L.P.N. until retiring in 1966. She returned home to Fort Yates from Minneapolis, MN. Effie and Maurice owned and operated Antell's Laundromat in Fort Yates during the 1970's. She became a homemaker after the laundromat and continued with that up to the time of her death.

In Effie's earlier years she enjoyed cooking meals for her family. She was especially known for her delicious pies. She loved to garden and work on her shelter belt. She enjoyed outdoor activities especially fishing with her sisters. She enjoyed hosting Canasta tournaments at her home. Effie's favorite pastime was reading and going to the Casino.

Effie loved her family dearly, especially her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Effie is survived by her children, Mary Jean (Michael) Sanchez of San Antonio, TX, Linda Antell of Ft. Yates, Mary Kay Antell of Ft. Yates, Maurice (Ramona) Antell Jr. of Ft. Yates, step daughters, Kim (Ron) Antell Olson, Star Prairie, WI, Pam Antell Houdek, Hayward, WI, grandchildren, Andrew Antell, Amanda Antell, LaLynn Antell, Rhonnae Antell, Mariah Antell, Amber Sanchez, Colby Antell, Cedro Antell, great grandchildren, Constance Antell, Braxton DeMarrias, Ryker DeMarrias, Laynee Hunte-Antell, Kyla Antell, Khili Antell, and Xavier Ramsey and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James & Louise (Hona) Alkire, husband, Maurice Antell Sr., brothers, William, Sammy, Leonard "Jiggs", and Basil "Bunky" Alkire, sisters, Marcella (Alkire) Netterville, Alvina Alkire, Tille (Alkire) Eastman, Ruth (Alkire) Snider, and Betty (Alkire) Benoit.
