Obituary

Funeral services for Edwin "Red" Goehring, age 92, of Herreid will be at 11 AM, Friday, January 10, 2014 at the Herreid Baptist Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. Visitation will start at 6 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM Thursday at the church. Edwin passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck.

Edwin E. Goehring was born on June 13, 1921 on a farm eight miles northwest of Herreid, SD, to Edward and Lydia (Salzer) Goehring. He attended Solmonson School through the eighth grade and attended Herreid High School for one year. He then worked at the family farm till 1942. Edwin married Bernice Quaschnick on November 26, 1942 at the Baptist Parsonage in Herreid. They made their home on a farm two miles east of Pollock before he bought the family farm in 1947. He farmed there until 1956 when he moved to Herreid and he and Rueben Metzger built a Chevrolet Garage where they sold Case Machinery, New Holland Machinery and Chevrolet vehicles. Then in the early 1960's they sold out to the Senftner Brothers. In 1962 he became a partner in Campbell County Livestock Sale Barn until 1967. During this time he was also a car salesman for Senftner Chevrolet until January of 2000 when he retired. Edwin also drove school bus for several years. He enjoyed going out to the farm after he retired to help along in combining time and silage cutting time.

He was a member of the Herreid Baptist Church, was on the City Board and the Herreid Equity Board in the 1970's.

Edwin is survived by his wife of 71 years, Bernice of the Strasburg Care Center, two daughters, Carol (Norman) Schick of Herreid and Joyce (Jerry) Ochsner of Rapid City, seven grandchildren, Dale (Nina) Schick, Jeff (Peggy) Schick, Sue (Ed) Nelson, Russ (Kristin) Schick, Sheila (Brandon) Bertch, Pamela (Randy) Crowell and Robin (Tyler) Nogai, 17 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, one brother, Ray (Lenora) Goehring of Aberdeen, one sister, Lorraine Kightlinger of Selby and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lydia, two brothers, Ted and Ervin and one sister, Shirley Erdahl.

Memorials may be directed towards the Herreid Baptist Church for carpet replacement.
