Funeral services for Edwin Gifford age 87 of Isabel will be 10:30 AM MT Monday January 15, 2018 at the Isabel Community Hall in Isabel. Burial will be in the Hillview Cemetery in Isabel under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Edwin passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Edwin Clarence Gifford was born June 3, 1930 in Gloversville, New York to Merrit and Mary (Etherton) Gifford. He grew up on a farm near Mayfield, New York and attended school at Northview.
He joined the US Air Force on May 25, 1950 and was honorably discharged May 24, 1954. Edwin received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
After returning from the Air Force, Edwin began working at a Leather Tannery in Hagamen, New York. On October 17, 1954 Edwin married Ruth Blowers at the Methodist Church in Mayfield, New York. To this union three sons were born. Edwin John, Daniel Richard and Lawrence Mark. Ed continued working at the Tannery until 1974 when he began working for Tucker Housewares in Leominster, Massachusetts. In the summer of 1975 his wife and children joined him and moved to Leominster where they lived until the company he was working for opened a new plant in Kingman, Arizona. In 1980 Ed and family moved to Kingman where he worked for Tucker Housewares until he retired in 1995.
Edwin enjoyed Hunting, Fishing and Camping. Ed was a story teller and he loved to visit and socialize. One highlight of his life, was a family trip to Montreal, Canada.
He is survived by his wife; Ruth of Isabel, SD, three sons; Edwin John (Julia) Gifford of Spring Hill, Florida, Daniel (Judy) Gifford of Merced, California and Lawrence Gifford of Isabel, SD., many grandchildren and great grandchildren, one sister; Beverly Birch, one brother-in-law; Robert Blowers, three sister-in-law's, and many nieces and nephews.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Richard and Charles.
