Funeral services for Edwin Fischer, 100, of Mobridge formerly of McLaughlin will be at 11 AM, Tuesday August 11, 2015 at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Burial will be at the Methodist Cemetery north of McLaughlin at 1:30 PM CT. Visitation will be from 9-11 AM Tuesday. Edwin passed away Friday August 7, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge.
Edwin Fischer was born on April 15, 1915 to John and Christina (Quenzer) Fischer nine miles east of Java, SD. In 1920 when he was five he moved with his folks to twelve miles northeast of McLaughlin. In 1935 Edwin took over his parents farm.
In 1936 Edwin married Frances Schlabs. They farmed until 1962 when they sold their farm and moved into McLaughlin. Edwin worked construction for the state one year. He also drove school bus. In 1963 he worked for the McLaughlin hospital as a maintenance man for seventeen years. He retired in 1980. In 1989 they moved to Mobridge where he lived the rest of his years.
Edwin was a member of the United Congregational Church. He was a board member of the White Bird School, also the United Methodist Church and the Senior Citizens for nine years. His hobbies were bowling, swimming, pool, watching baseball and was a good whist player.
Edwin is survived by five sons, Donald (Linda) of Aberdeen, Charles (Betty) of Spearfish, Tom (Gloria) of Cannonball, ND, Vernon of Hecla, and Gary (Donna) of Mobridge, two daughters, Jane (Duane) Kraft of Selfridge, ND and June (Larry) Kelsch of Selfridge, ND, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by wife, Frances in 1994, son, Lonnie in 1975, mother in 1940, father in 1972, brothers, Rienold and Herbert and sisters, Martha Schott, Maggie Moser, and Elizabeth Ramey.
