Obituary
Funeral services for Edwin J. Fischer 94 of Herreid, SD will be 9:30 AM Saturday May 16, 2015 at the Herreid Baptist church in Herreid, SD . Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Edwin passed away May 13, 2015 at the Linton Hospital in Linton, ND.
Edwin J. Fischer was born on April 24, 1921 to John and Magdalina (Hirsch) on the family farm near Herreid. Edwin grew up on the family farm and attended rural school through the 8th grade.
Edwin and Iola Kusler were married on Dec. 12, 1942 at Wessington Springs, SD By Edwin's brother the Rev. Art Fischer. Following their marriage they made there home on the Fischer farm 10 miles east of Herreid. This is where they lived, Farmed and raised their family. In 2005 Edwin and Iola moved into Herreid where he has since resided. He became a resident of the Strasburg Care Center the end of March of 2014.
While farming Edwin was also a employee for the SD State Hiway Dept for 24 years. He loved to go riding with his family and friends on his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Edwin and his sons took many trips on their motorcycles. They travel to the west coast visiting Washington and California. He also made many trips to the motorcycle rally in Sturgis.
Edwin is survived by is wife, Iola of 72 years, three children, Dennis (Carol) Fischer of Mobridge, SD, Gary (Becky) Fischer of Aberdeen, SD, Lorie (Dean) Goehring of Shakopee, MN, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Emil, Walter, Arthur, and Henry five sisters, Martha Rueb, Ida Bauer, Ella Mouton, Lorraine Bauer, Violet Huber.
Casketbearers will be Grandchildren Todd, Casey, Jesse, Chad and Josh Fischer and nephew Bill Fischer.
Honorary casketbearers will be Edwin's granddaughters and great grandchildren.
The Organist is Ruth Mittleider. The congregation will sing "What a Day That Will Be" and "How Great Thou Art". special Music will be by Casey Fischer who will sing "I'll Fly Away" and Becca Vance and she will sing "Amazing Grace"
