Allbee
October 31, 1940 – March 31, 2025
Funeral Services for Edward Allbee, 84, of Herreid will be at 10 am, Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Hull Christian Reformed Church in Hull, North Dakota. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. Edward passed away Monday, March 31, 2025, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Edward LeRoy Allbee was born on October 31, 1940, on the family farm near Norbeck, SD to Everett and Nellie (Penfield) Allbee. Edward or "Ed" as most people knew him was the youngest of 12 children. After graduating school, Ed joined the U.S. Army in Jan. 1959. It was the first time he encountered running water, electricity and watched TV. Ed served with high distinction in the Vietnam War. He served as a medic in a helicopter "Dust Off" unit in which he rescued fellow service members in heavily contested combat areas. Ed received the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, for his bravery in combat. He continued his military service after Vietnam and was stationed at various bases in Europe and the U.S. during his 20-year career in the army. In 1972 he married Carol Kaiser, and she joined him in his military assignments and travels. Together they raised four children. They all speak fondly of the trips in Europe they took while supporting Ed's military career. After retiring from the army Ed worked at various jobs including maintenance, welding, and dairy farming (his favorite job). Ed and Carol eventually settled down in Java, SD, a town in which they loved dearly. In 2004 they moved to Herreid, SD, and enjoyed being with their friends, family members and grandchildren. Ed loved horseback riding, rodeos, woodworking, being outdoors, traveling, and camping with Carol. He served on the Java Volunteer Fire Department, the Herreid Rodeo Club, and the American Legion. Ed always gave people the "benefit of the doubt" and was loyal to all those whom he loved, he will be sorely missed.
Ed is survived by his sister, Shirley Ketterling of Bowdle, SD; Children: Sheila (Andrew) Van Kuren of Herreid; Kenneth Allbee of Bismarck, ND; Richard Allbee of Berthoud, CO; Lori (Richard) Scheuble, Flora Vista, NM; Alan (Cristiane) Allbee of Herreid, SD. He is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Edward is preceded in death by his wife Carol, Feb. 2017; Ten of his siblings and in-laws; his father Everett, Mar. 1952 and his mother Nellie, Aug. 1978.
The family deeply appreciates and extends their gratitude to the Avera Eureka and Avera McKennan Hospital staffs for their compassionate care of Edward.
