Obituary

Funeral services for Dorothy Schlomer, 79, of Glenham will be 10:30 AM Monday, September 26, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Burial will be at the Glenham Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 PM at the funeral home, with a prayer service at 7 PM at the St. Jacobi Lutheran Church in Glenham. Mrs. Schlomer passed away September 22, 2011 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Dorothy Schlomer passed away from cancer at the age of 79 on September 22, 2011 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Dorothy Inez (Haar) Schlomer was born September 30, 1931 to Erhard and Anna (Hofer) Haar in Roscoe, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Roscoe. In 1950 she graduated from Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, SD. She attended Northern State College and taught at the Franklin Country School one year and two years at the Rabenberg school.

On Easter Sunday, April 5, 1953, she married Victor Schlomer at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Roscoe, SD. They made their home in Glenham, SD and were members of the St. Jacobi Lutheran Church. After raising 4 daughters Dorothy received her 4 year teaching degree at Northern State College in 1972. She taught school 3 years in Mound City, SD and 19 years in Wakpala, SD and retired from teaching in 1991.

Dorothy enjoyed gardening, canning, making quilts and crocheting. She loved seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her coffee friends.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Victor, 4 daughters; Vicky (Richard) Allerdings of Gillette, WY, Jeri (Jim) Richards of Aberdeen, SD; Tina (Don) Pearce of Orlando, Fl; Juli (Curt) Phelps of Peru, IN; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, one sister Ruth Weig of Aberdeen, SD; 3 brothers, Gilbert Haar of Watertown, SD; Armond Haar of Aberdeen, SD and Arnie Haar of Rapid City, SD and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson.
