Dorothy Louise Mayer was born on August 13, 1925 in Pedro, SD. Dorothy was the 8th of 10 children born to Dietrick (Dick) and Anna (Hamann) Busskohl. When Dorothy was 3 years old, the family moved to Dewey, South Dakota in Custer County.

Dorothy and Edmund J. Mayer were married on June 24, 1946 in Pierre, SD and moved to Isabel from Dewey, SD. Dorothy was baptized on August 23, 1925 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on July 16, 1939, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Custer, SD. Dorothy was an active member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Isabel and was active in the ladies' aid and taught Sunday school.

She loved to quilt, sew, knit and crochet and was always working on some crafting project and taught several sewing classes. In addition to caring for her own family, she provided babysitting and took in sewing for others. Dorothy was a cook for the Isabel Senior Nutrition Site beginning with it's opening in 1975 and retired in April of 1997 to babysit her grandchildren.

Dorothy loved the outdoors hunting, fishing and camping with her family. She especially enjoyed the family fishing trip to Canada for their 30 th anniversary and a moose hunting trip to Wyoming and caribou hunting trip to Alaska when she was 81.

She is survived by her sons, Edmund Leroy (Helen) Mayer of Rapid City, Larry Mayer of Isabel, Lesley (Jeane) Mayer of Timber Lake, Louis (Monica) Mayer of Isabel, Leo (Lori) Mayer of Wichita, Kansas, and a daughter, Lana (Kelly) Jensen of Rapid City, 13 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Edmund, parents and siblings.

Dorothy's love for her family knew no bounds, as each member can attest through the fond memories they hold, too numerous to mention. Her constant, faithful, presence in their lives will be sorely missed.
