Obituary

Donna Marie (Mohn) Jackson was born March 23, 1929 in Mobridge SD to Dr. M.C. and Adeline Mohn. She was the youngest of three children in the family: her sister June and brother Jack. Donna attended elementary school at General Beadle School and graduated in 1947 from Mobridge High School where she and James became sweethearts. While in school she participated in Mixed Choir and Declam. She was voted best looking and best dressed her senior year. Following graduation, Donna attended Northern State Teacher's College in Aberdeen. In September of 1948 when Donna was headed east to college, she and Jim drove west instead, traveling to Montana to get married and the 68 year marriage began on September 9, 1948. To this marriage 4 children were born: Andrew (Lisa) Jackson of Rapid City, Vicki (Ken) Berg of Mobridge, Suzann (Terry) Wiest of Tabor SD and Julie (Mike) Flohr of Pine Haven, Wyoming.

Donna was a stay-at-home mom for many years; however she and Jim had the Jackson Egg Company and she spent many hours gathering, washing and grading eggs at the chicken barn alongside Jim. As a young mother, Donna was a member of the Young Mother's Club, Congregational Church Women's Fellowship and a Sunday School teacher. She and Jim enjoyed being part of the various musical productions the church's Couples Club performed and were members of the local dance club.

When their youngest daughter Julie started school, Donna went to work for the Mobridge Tribune as the Society Editor. She enjoyed working for Gene Chamberlain for 15 years and won several awards. She also was a volunteer for the Mobridge Hospital Auxiliary, working at the snack bar and serving the annual Hospital Bazaar. She has been a member of P.E.O. for 50 years as well as the UCC Church. She loved playing bridge and hosted many parties in her home on her glass snack trays.

Jim and Donna opened Jackson's Antiques on Airport Road in 1980. While in the antique business, Donna collected donkeys, China Brass, angels and Mexican dishware. In the early 80's they started traveling to Laferia, TX for the winter. They traveled 2,700 miles each way to their winter home for 25 years, buying and selling antiques, enjoying the warm, sunny days.

Donna enjoyed knitting, walking, biking, swimming, boating and covering herself with Johnson's Baby Oil before sunbathing. Her 10 grandchildren were frequent visitors at her home on Kennedy Drive as well as most of her 14 great grandchildren.

Donna passed away peacefully at the Golden Living Center on October 22, 2016 at the age of 87.
