Obituary
Funeral services for Donna J. Gilbert Martin, age 69, of Mobridge will be at 11 AM MT, Saturday, July 23, 2011 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. Burial will be in St. Paul's Episcopal Cemetery in LaPlant under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Donna passed away Monday, July 18, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.
Donna Joyce Gilbert was born on August 1, 1941 at the Old Agency to Marcella Gilbert. She grew up in the country around the Old Agency. She was part of one of the last classes at Cheyenne River Boarding School, before the flood. Her early childhood was spent helping her grandparents and Marguerite tend to the Gilbert Ranch. She later worked for Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe before beginning her career with the government working as a Administrative Assistant. That career lasted twenty five plus years before retiring in 1997. She worked in Aberdeen, Lower Brule and Fort Thompson. Following her retirement she moved to LaPlant. In 2003 she moved to Mobridge where she has since resided.
Donna enjoyed visiting her family and friends, bowling, watching her soaps and listening to country music, watch golf, and spend time with grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Kelly J. Martin and Sarah L. Martin of Mobridge, sons, Lucas J. Martin and Anthony A. Red Bird of Mobridge, grandchildren, Jordan M. Martin, Chase M. Martin, Antonio Red Bird, Toni Red Bird and Charity Hope Ashly, brothers, Kenneth White Eagle of Kansas and James "Jimmy" Gilbert of Eagle Butte, and numerous great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Marcella Gilbert, Aunts, Marguerite Gilbert and Thelma Brown, Brother, Vincent "Butch" Charles, Sons, Gibson Garrett, Jason Jay Martin, and Matthew Jordan Martin.
Casketbearers will be Lucas Martin, Lee Cutt, Kenneth White Eagle, John Martin, Shilo Demery, James "Jimmy" Gilbert, Larry Mesteth, Jamie Mesteth.
Honorary Bearers will be Delphine Red Fox, Linda Simon and All of Donna's Nieces and Nephews.
