Funeral services for Donald L. Wilcox, age 84, of Mobridge will be at 11 AM Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Larson's Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be from 3 to 8PM Thursday at Kesling Funeral Home. Donald passed away Sunday Nov. 14, 2010 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Donald Lee Wilcox was born on October 20, 1926 to Sidney A. and Alma M. (Thode) Wilcox at Ipswich, SD. He attended rural grade school in Rosette Township, and graduated from Ipswich High School. After high school Don went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. He served in the US Army for a short time and received his Honorable Discharge in 1949. He then returned to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.
Don married Mildred Delores Flemmer on October 17, 1950 at Selby. Mildred passed away in 1972. In 1976 he married Shirley Jean Hammond at Mobridge.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on various boards. He also was a member of the Mobridge Moose Club where he served on various boards and was governor in 1976.
Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, going out to eat, and spending time with friends and family. His grandsons were the joy of his life. He especially liked to take them out fishing.
Don retired from US West (NWB) Communications in 1990 after spending forty three years working for them.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean Wilcox of Mobridge, daughter, Jennifer Lee (Brad) Erickson of Brookings, two grandsons, Ben Erickson of Las Vegas and Blake Erickson of Brookings.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred, his parents, two brothers, Bernard and Harold in infancy, two sisters, Arlene and Marna.
