Mass of Christian Burial for Donald White, 82, of Ft. Yates will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, September 2, 2019 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ft. Yates. Burial will be at the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A prayer service will be at 7 PM Sunday at the church. Donald passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019 in Palm Springs, CA.

Donald Gordon White, 82 years old, entered the spirit world on August 21, 2019 in Palm Desert, California. Donald White was born to Elizabeth Silk and William White (Stepfather-George Azure) in Fort Yates, North Dakota.
Donald attended school in Fort Yates, ND and Chamberlain, SD. At the age of 16, he joined the U.S Army and served in the Marksman and Sharpshooter Units during the Korean War. After three years of service, he received his honorable discharge in 1959. Upon completion of his military duties, he returned home and worked various jobs with Standing Rock, BIA, Haskell Indian Junior College-Lawrence KS, Standing Rock Transportation and Prairie Knights Casino. Donald also attended various trade and vocational schools where he would became certified in welding, masonry, drafting, cook and horse-handler.
From his marriage to Alberta Two Bears they had five (5) children: Donald Kevin, Richard, Rhonda, Shelly, and James White.
In 1966, Donald married Helen Defender and the two were married for 53 years, until she passed in 2017. Children: Robin Silk-Larson, Denise Silk-Stading, Travis Silk, Terry Silk, Joan Marie King-Larsen, Glenn White, Shawn White, and Ashton White.
Donald enjoyed his retirement at home doing his yard work, where he planted every tree that surrounded his and Helen's home and was often found mowing their lawn. His "green thumb" was appreciated by many, as the apple trees he planted, produced the fruits used in Helen's famous pies. Donald's hard work can still be adored by many that passed by their home on Highway 24. Until the very end, he especially enjoyed his time with his grandson, Shawn II and granddaughter, Jillian watching movies or simply baking.
Donald is survived by his children, and grandchildren who will forever be grateful for his loving guidance, family dedication, and hard work. Donald leaves behind his children, Donald Kevin, Rhonda, Shelly, James, Shawn, Ashton, Glenn, Robin, Denise, Travis, Terry, Joan Marie and Shawn II; sisters, Helen White Perez and Mary Lou Azure; brother, Gerald (Lisa) Azure and many grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Silk (George) Azure and William J. White; wife, Helen White; brothers, William and Darryl White; son, Richard White; Grandparents, John and Bridget (Halsey) Silk and Benjamin White Sr. and Abby Gayton White; Great Grandparents, James Bennett Gayton and Mary Pleasing To The Nation and Stephan Silk and Lulalya.
