Funeral services for Donald Howell age 61 of Mobridge will be 10:00 AM Friday, June 17, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Thursday, June 16, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at Trinity Lutheran Church. Donald passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Donald was born October 13, 1954 in Fargo, ND, to Donald and Sarah (Ruthmiller) Howell. As a young boy he lived with his family in a house Mobridge. He was educated and graduated from Mobridge Public Schools. During this time he would go help his father Donald Howell at their family mechanic business (Howell Auto Electric) and learned to become a mechanic. After graduating at 17 years of age he went on to Dun-Woody Vo-Tec in Minneapolis, Minnesota for Auto Mechanics and Electrical Engineering and graduated with a degree. From there he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and went through basic training in North Carolina at Camp Lejeune and was then stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
On July 28, 1974 he married Dianne Franceen in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps in 1974 with a National Defense Service Medal, Expert Rifle Badge and resided in Minneapolis, Minnesota with his new wife Dianne Howell and their new son was born Donnie A. Howell, Jr. In 1975 they relocated the family to Mobridge, SD, to help his father at their family mechanic business. They continued on having two more children a son David L. Howell and a daughter Christina L. Howell. When Don's father passed away in 1990 he took over the family business and worked there for many years while buying and remodeling a new home for his family.
In 1999 he went to new employment at the Grand River Casino to work in the cage eventually he switched from the cage to Slot Technician and continued to do so until his time of death.
Don was a smart and caring man who touched many people's lives. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting darts. He took pride in his job at the Grand River Casino and enjoyed companionship with all his co-workers.
Don is survived by his , son David Howell, daughter Christina Howell and mother Sarah Howell,ex-wife Dianne Howell and nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild all of Mobridge and sister Sharon Olsen of Elk River, MN.
Don was preceded in death by his father Donald A. Howell Sr., and son Donnie A. Howell Jr. and Grandpa and Grandma Ruthmiller.
He is survived by his son David Howell daughter Christine Howell.
